Climbing is one of those rare activities that truly brings all ages together. Whether it’s little adventurers exploring our colourful soft play zones or older kids (and grown-ups!) challenging themselves on our exciting climbing walls, there’s something magical about reaching new heights.
At our centres across the UK, we see it every day; toddlers building confidence step by step in soft play, teenagers racing their mates to the top, and parents surprising themselves with just how far they can climb! Wall climbing isn’t just great exercise; it builds strength, coordination, resilience and self-belief. All while having loads of fun.
Ready to give it a go? Book your session here! But before you visit, let’s start with our top tips to help beginners feel confident on the wall.
If it’s your first time visiting one of our climbing centres, then welcome!
We’re here to make sure you feel safe, supported and excited from the moment you arrive. Here are our top tips to help you get the most out of your session:
Before you clip in, you’ll take part in our compulsory safety briefing. This is super important and ensures everyone understands how the equipment works and how to climb safely. Listen carefully, ask questions, and you’ll be ready to go in no time.
It can be tempting to head straight for the tallest wall, but we always recommend starting on an easier route to get a feel for things. Build confidence first; the bigger climbs will still be there waiting for you!
Stretchy, flexible clothing is best. You’ll be reaching, stepping and moving in all directions, so make sure you’re comfortable and ready to climb.
It’s a common beginner mistake to rely on arm strength. Your legs are much stronger! Push up with your legs and use your arms for balance; you’ll climb higher with less effort.
There’s no rush. Climbing isn’t a race (unless you want it to be!). Move at your own pace and focus on steady progress.
Before you start climbing, take a moment to look at the wall. Spot your handholds and footholds and think about your next few moves. A little planning goes a long way.
Challenge yourself — that’s where the magic happens! But listen to your body too. It’s perfectly okay to come down, take a breather, and try again.
Our friendly team are always nearby and happy to help. If you’re unsure about anything, from technique to equipment, just ask. That’s what we’re here for!
Climbing is even more fun when you cheer each other on. Encourage one another, celebrate reaching the top, and enjoy the shared achievement.
This is the most important tip of all. Laugh, challenge yourself, try again, and enjoy every second. The best climbers are the ones with the biggest smiles! Feeling inspired already? Why not book now and put these tips into practice?
One of the best things about wall climbing is that it’s truly for everyone. From primary school children discovering their confidence, to teenagers looking for something active and exciting to do with friends, to parents wanting to try something new, our climbing walls welcome all abilities.
You don’t need prior experience, and you don’t need to be super sporty. Our walls are designed with different levels of difficulty, so beginners and experienced climbers can enjoy themselves side by side.
For younger children, our soft play areas offer a safe and imaginative space to explore, climb and burn off energy. It’s perfect for little ones who aren’t quite ready for the big walls yet and ideal for siblings who want their own adventure too.
Climbing is also a brilliant way to spend quality time together. Celebrate birthdays, plan after-school treats, organise weekend family outings, or just pop in for an active day out. It’s exercise disguised as fun, and we’re all for that!
